The boring-but-important bit

Privacy policy

Your details are safe with me. This page explains, in plain English, what I collect through this website, why, and what you can ask me to do with it.

Who I am

This website is run by me, Jennifer McKenzie. I'm responsible for your personal information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). You can reach me any time at info@jennifermckenzie.co.uk.

What I collect, and why

  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address, so I can send you my newsletter: notes from me, events, the book and new resources. I only send it because you asked for it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Book waitlist: your first name and email address, so I can tell you when presale opens and give you priority access to the workbook. I'll only add you to my newsletter as well if you tick the box to say yes.
  • Podcast guest pitches: the details you choose to share (such as your name, email, links and your story), so I can read your pitch and reply. I use these only to consider you as a guest and get in touch about the show.
  • Emails you send me: whatever you include, so I can reply to you.

I rely on your consent for the newsletter and waitlist, and on my legitimate interest in replying to you for guest pitches and emails. I will never sell your details or share them with anyone to market to you.

Who helps me look after it

I use a few trusted services to run things. They only handle your details on my behalf:

  • Wix hosts this website and stores form sign-ups.
  • Mailchimp sends my newsletter and book updates.
  • Google Workspace runs my email.

Some of these companies may store information outside the UK, for example in the USA. When they do, they use the legal safeguards UK law requires, such as approved contract terms.

How long I keep it

Newsletter and waitlist details stay until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove them. Guest pitches and emails are kept for as long as we're in touch about them, and deleted after that unless you'd like me to keep them.

Cookies

This site uses only the cookies it needs to work and keep the forms secure. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google to fetch them. I don't use advertising cookies.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can also withdraw your consent at any time, for example by clicking "unsubscribe" in any email. Just email info@jennifermckenzie.co.uk and I'll sort it, usually within a few days and always within one month.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If I change how I use your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
